Tsunami Japanese Restaurant

Here we feature 'Tsunami' a Japanese restaurant in the Chiang Mai University quarter. The restaurant offers fantastic value for money Japanese food, yet is great quality for the price. Most evenings there are queues outside waiting for a seat. That said, once inside the service is excellent with enough waitresses to ensure speedy service.

Where is it?

If you are coming back from Doi Suthep, Tsunami is on the left hand side not long before the junction with the canal road. Or from town, just take the Huay Kaew Road, past the Amari Rincome junction, over the canal road, and it will be on the right hand side. At night you can't miss it because of the red lanterns hanging outside.

Some of the seating at Tsunami's is outside the restaurant where you can sit around the chef and watch him cook your dinner. This creates a great atmosphere for those dining alone, or in small groups. Larger groups should sit inside - even if it means queueing! There is an upstairs with some extra seats, but beware, its not a large area - either be prepared to wait, or get there early!

Whats the food like?

Well, strangely enough it's Japanese. A wide choice of Japanese dishes, including sushi. Good quality food - my favourite is the Gyoza!

I love this place. The food is great, and for Japanese very reasonably priced. When I'm low on cash but hankering for some sushi this is one of my favorite spots. Can eat for less that 100 baht! The only downside is that the restaurant itself is pretty small and seating can prove to be difficult on particularly busy days. Tsunami is nothing too fancy but a great spot for dinner alone or with a few close friends. Highly recommended.
