Khao Pad Flash Mob

An unusual way to eat

Phase 1 >> Phase 2 >> Phase 3

The 15th March 2008 was a strange day for eating in Chiang Mai. A random Thai food eatery was chosen and targetted by members of a flash mob. Each participant entered at around 3 minute intervals, each following the same routine - order a Khao Pad Gai (Chicken Fried Rice), find a place to sit - and then sit motionless not speaking and certainly not eating. The bemused staff continued producing the as yet uneaten Khao Pad, with a pause while they went to buy new rice. A random drunk farang stranger informed Caleb that he planned to divorce his 3rd wife, much to the unshown amusement of those in earshot - and still there was no movement, and the food was untouched. Once everyone had food in place, Ken got up and announced 'On your marks, get set, Go!', which began the eating race. Lenny capably defeated the pre-eat favourite (Martin), and won the crown of eating champ. On finishing, each participant quickly paid their bill and left to leave the staff pondering their existence and the relevance of the strange occurance. Below is a selection of photos from the event.
