The second of the Gassan golf courses, Lake City is a short 20 minute ride from the city. The course is aptly named as the development has plenty of water features. There are several island greens as well as some testing tee shots. This course is not for short hitters, as several holes demand long tee-shots. The course is in a new housing development, complete with hotel and luxurious clubhouse. While the gassan driving range isn't on site, it is a 10 minute drive away in between the course and the city.
Features
Gassan Lake City is a new course situated amongst rice fields just south of Chiang Mai. It features several island greens and many tee shots over the numerous lakes. The 15th is a par 5 with a difference - unless you can carry 300yards, your tee shot is a carefully placed lay up of a little over 100 yards, leaving a long 2nd shot. The 9th is arguably the hardest hole in the region - with water ahead long hitters can't drive off the tee, which will leave a tricky 2nd shot - a long shot to a green well protected by bunkers. Even good players need to play well to avoid dropping shots here. The clubhouse is simply breathtaking - an ideal place to relax after the game.

Name : Sam
A much improved golf course. From a design perspective, the course had always been fun. The problem was the rock-hard greens. But they've managed to soften them up a bit, although it's still rather crusty. Even though I'd say the course is average difficulty, it may prove more challenging for a high-handicapper who cannot get the ball up in the air. The course has lots and lots of water and most of the time (e.g., all par 3's), you have to get the ball over the water to reach either the green or fairway. A long hitter has the opportunity to use other clubs besides driver on the par 4's and 5's. I'd also rank holes 8 and 9 as the most difficult back-to-back holes in Chiang Mai. As for facilities, Gassan does have the reputation of building first class club houses and this one's no exception. The staff is pretty good...most of the time. Not as personable as Maejo, but then who is. All in all, a very interesting golf experience.
