Mae Moh Golf Course is built on a mountain overlooking a huge lignite mine in Mae Moh, just south of Lampang. It's around 1 1/2 hours drive from Chiang Mai, but it is worth the trip occasionally. Part of the course is on the top of the mountains offering spectacular views, while the rest is at the bottom of the valley. This means there are some very steep inclines on some holes, some with blind uphill shots, others with stunning down hill shots. It's excellent value for money and some of the holes are very memorable.
How to get to Mae Moh
Head south of Chiang Mai on the superhighway. Go past Lamphun, and through the Khuntan mountains to Lampang. When you've descended the mountains, go straight on at the first 2 main sets of traffic lights, continuing on highway 11. Keep going until you finally reach a T-junction. Turn right (which stays on highway 11), and continue for around 10km. Turn left onto Mae Moh road, which is well sign posted at a set of traffic lights. The Mae Moh road is a long straight highway. Continue for about 16km before turning left at the Hang Hung T junction. It helps if you can read some Thai, as it then isn't easy to find, but if in doubt follow the English signs for the Mine.
