Gold Mountain is the newest golf course in the Chiang Mai area - with its first 9 holes opening late 2008. There are 27 holes planned, with a second nine due to open early in 2009. The clubhouse is currently under construction (as of end of 2008), so currently there is little in the way of showering facilities, but there is somewhere to buy a beer and some excellent value food. There is however no beer shack on the course, so you'll have to take refreshments with you from the makeshift clubhouse.
The course is excellent value - currently 400 Baht, including the caddy fee, which I expect to see increase as the course gets completed. Also for a new course, its in excellent shape, and a really enjoyable round, even though you play the same 9 twice! There are plenty of challenges, but expect to see new water features and bunkers added in the future.
How to get to Gold Mountain
Head south from Chiang Mai along the main super highway towards Lamphun. In Lamphun you'll pass a Big C superstore on the right, taking the flyover over the junction. Turn right at the next set of traffic lights, and then you'll cross over the railway before reaching another set of traffic lights - take a left direction 'Pasang'. The road is very straight for around 13km, before it bends to the right. Just after the corner you'll see a road on the left marked "Nida", and a smaller sign for 'Gold Mountain'. Take the road for around 5km until you arrive at the course. It takes around 40-45 minutes to drive from Chiang Mai.
