Mae Moh Golf Course is built on a mountain overlooking a huge lignite mine in Mae Moh, just south of Lampang. It’s around 1 1/2 hours drive from Chiang Mai, but it is worth the trip occasionally. Part of the course is on the top of the mountains offering spectacular views, while the rest is at the bottom of the valley. This means there are some very steep inclines on some holes, some with blind uphill shots, others with stunning down hill shots. It’s excellent value for money and some of the holes are very memorable.
Features
The holes running along the edge of the mine are arguably the most appealing – with the par 3 tenth hole being a stand out. Not the longest of holes, but you launch your tee shot off a cliff in the hope that you have the right club to land on the small green surrounded by water, while ahead of you the mine offers a great view. The 16th is also an interesting hole where your tee shot needs to carry the road to reach the fairway!

Location
Mae Moh is around 1 1/2 hours from Chiang Mai, located just south of Lampang. Take the highway 11 south from Chiang Mai past Lamphun and through the mountains to Lampang. When you get to the traffic lights in Lampang, just keep going straight as the highway turns into a bypass. Eventually you will get to a T junction, which is also highway 11. Turn Right here, and after around 5km follow signs to the left – you can follow signs for either the golf course or for Mae Moh Mine, the golf course is on the other side of the mine.
